Whether you are writing literary fiction or romantasy, fairy tale endings or tragic heartbreaks, romantic relationships are at the heart of so many stories - and indeed, form some of the best stories of all time.
Globally-selling author Claire Daverley (Talking at Night) will be exploring how to put romantic relationships onto the page in this online masterclass. She’ll share her insight into how you might forge a connection between two people, and how you might bring them together or keep them apart for the duration of a novel. Claire will ask you to consider character, dialogue, genre and the power of detail to conjure an intimacy that feels authentic. And she’ll leave you with the tools to return to your own writing, feeling more confident about what kind of love story it is that you want to write.
Finally, Claire will share her journey to publication, and any advice she has for writers looking to take a step in that direction.
The session will end with a brief Q&A, so come ready with your questions.
The masterclass will take place online via Teams. It will also be recorded so if you are unable to attend live, you'll be able to catch-up and access the recording for up to two weeks after the event has taken place.
Claire Daverley was born in 1991 and has been writing stories ever since she was six years old.
After graduating with a degree in Fine Art from The University of Oxford, she began a career in publishing, writing about books by day, but penning her own by night, on trains and in the light of the early mornings.
She has spent most of her life in Hertfordshire, but now lives in Scotland by the sea with her husband and spaniel.
Her debut novel, Talking at Night, has sold in twenty-three territories to date, was selected for the Fearne Cotton Happy Place Book Club, shortlisted for the Debut of the Year at the British Book Awards 2023, long listed for the Waterstones Debut of the Year 2023, and shortlisted for the Nota Bene Prize 2024.
She is currently writing her second novel.
