Age you can be published from

I know I am not ready to be published yet, however I was wondering if there was a minimum age you have to be when trying to get an agent and published. Also I am going to university this September and although I will be doing a degree in History I believe there are groups for creative writing. Would anyone recommend my joining or will the be a hinderence as a opposed to a benefit? Thank you

Christopher Paolini began the Inheritance Cycle at the age of fifteen and there's a girl I read about a few months ago who published a book during her A Levels, so about 17-18

I think creative groups can be a real blessing. At least for the fact that you will be 'forced' to write something and you will probably receive enough encouragement to motivate you. I have a very big problem with the lack of motivation! That's why I insist on entering all sorts of competitions (without really having any chances to win) - because it keeps me writing. I have an addiction for deadlines. :)

From my research (for a previous job) I found a boy only last year that had 2 books published, one about time and the other about money...he was only 4 years old!
