I've been a member of this site for years and always found there were people willing to leave feedback for other users to improve their writing... Now the site seems to have dwindled and the users posting work are no longer receiving the great feedback I love this site for. I understand people have lives and are busy, but it really is a shame to see a site go from being well used to users seemingly ignore one another's work 😔 Hopefully when times are less busy for everyone the feedback will commence
I think a lot of people who use this site are also writing and quite often, speaking for myself, tend to either come on when needing a break and see who is saying and asking what and seeing what the advice is. It is surprising how many times I have had help without asking for it because someone has asked a question I have needed the answer to, and of course I have ALWAYS had good advice and guidance when I have asked.
I never feel confident in critiquing someone else's work, I have commented on how I have either enjoyed reading it or if I didn't "get it" You are right Victoria it is a brilliant place to come. I have many times been helped by Lorraine when she has gone over a piece and done an edit, BRILLIANT what can I say. Hope she's is not embarrassed by this but I think her comments are worth there weight in gold.

No that the is perfectly and I have received feedback from you myself so know the sort of feedback you present (I have made the suggested amendments by the way and you were right, just a few word changes and it sounds much better so thank you!) I wasn't aiming this post to cause anyone to feel targeted or to make people feel I am only after feedback for my work so I sincerely hope no one feels that. I simply feel some people who have posted work have never received feedback which is shame. Of course not every person is going to find an appeal to pieces on this site but it did strike me as sad that is all.

I'm one of those who will give detailed feedback: but I can't give it to everyone who writes here. Some genres just aren't my thing; and if I've commented on a person's work a few times, I feel it's up to that person to either learn from what I've said or discard it, but I can't go on doing it for each chapter. It takes a very long time to go through a whole piece - I copy and paste into Word and do it there, but it is still very time-consuming.
What I've done on here is what I do when someone pays me to edit their work: it wouldn't then be fair to those clients if I did a whole novel piece by piece here for nothing - and it wouldn't be fair to me, either.
I'm happy to comment when I can, but can't guarantee to get here every day.
