Hi Diana, I'm not a grate writer by any means, but I do know what its like to get to the point where your head hurts because you have no idea where to go next. All I can say in this situation what worked for me. Was to have a complete break, put the book away. Get a bag packed and head out to the country for e few days.Try to get some good weather and put your MP3 on play your fave tunes and just go out for a long walk. In the past this has worked for me, its like a battery recharge. Oh and by the way make sure you have your note book, just in case the odd idea pops in. I'm sure you use the writers note book method to keep your thoughts and ideas at hand. Give it a go, if all else fails there is chocolate.
Above all - don't feel that you have to write. Give yourself time. Enjoy other things - maybe other writing. If this writing comes back to you - which it probably will when it and you are ready - then you can carry on and enjoy it. If it doesn't come back - it was good practice - you can move on to something different - in writing or not.
Enjoy what you do. :-)
David.
I lie on the sofa and imagine the next scene in my novel. Then I play out the scene in my mind before I write it down.
Read as much as you can about the genre of your novel. I also recommend that you read poetry. I have been inspired by single lines of poetry.
