Hi

I am new and yes I know that this question has probably been asked a thousand times but .......I would love to hear of what helps people when they have full time jobs to get their bottoms in the chair and get the writing done. Currently i'm only managing about 3,000 words a week and feeling frustrated....any creative solutions?

Big Thanks

Thank you all for your responses, I am quite shocked that it is a reasonable amount, i'm new to this sorry. .I have worked out why I am in a flap; because there are some days when it flows and I can write more and other days when I cannot, so I guess it's more about consistency really and holding the thread and trying not to panic if I don't write for a day or two.

Smaller goals sounds more doable than holding the whole novel at once....i'll keep at it.

Many thanks and lots of luck to all

I don't know about any creative solutions but just write whenever you can. I take my laptop to work and use it on my lunch break and when I'm not feeling too paranoid that someone is going to read my work and steal my ideas, I write on the train to and from work :)

3000 words a week is nothing to stress about. It is plenty :)

I'm currently redrafting so I don't really look at the bigger picture of how many thousands of words I have left to redraft. I take it chapter by chapter and my goal every time I sit is to finish that chapter. It is less to worry about and possibly less frustrating.

So that's probably my advice to you. Have a smaller goal each time you sit so you'll constantly meet your target and yeah.... iunno

You're doing just fine!

Normally, I write about the same as I have 2 writing sessions per week. You write what you write. Better 3000 words you feel pleased with and perhaps a little surprised at your creativity around, than 5000++ words you hate.
