Hi

I am new and yes I know that this question has probably been asked a thousand times but .......I would love to hear of what helps people when they have full time jobs to get their bottoms in the chair and get the writing done. Currently i'm only managing about 3,000 words a week and feeling frustrated....any creative solutions?

Big Thanks

3000 words a week is good.

Graham Greene suggests would-be authors aim for 300 words a day. That's 2100 words a week,109200 in a year. Enough for a novel and a good start a second novel.

Hi

If you are working full time and you are consistently writing 3000 words every week - well done!

That's 150,000+ by the end of the year - a very respectable novel length (you'll have to go back and reduce your word count this time next year!)

If you're concerned that you're writing 6000 words one week and none the next, then maybe keeping track on paper might help you find when and where works for you best. But I wouldn't want to put too much pressure on - you have to live life as well (or what will you have to write about?).

Hope that helps

Kate

Hi Andrea,

I find I just have to put up with whatever output I can manage. 3,000 words a week sounds like quite a lot to me, considering you have a full time job. I have a young daughter, which limits my writing opportunities, but I try not to stress over it, just enjoy writing when I can.
