I have an idea for a comedy movie that I think could be interesting to work on, but I have never written any kind of script before. Has anyone had any experience or thoughts about script writing?

Hi, Andrew.
I'm excited for you, especially as I may one day get to see your baby up on the silver screen!
I completed a twelve-week screenwriting module as part of my Film Degree, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Furthermore, I read several of the screenplays that the films I wrote about in my first book are based on. Naturally, there are various courses, books, etc, etc on screenwriting but, especially regarding your first draft, I would suggest you take heed from something Denzel Washington said to Antwone Fisher, who wrote the screenplay for Denzel's directorial debut film, Antwone Fisher; Denzel effectively told Antwone, who had never written a screenplay before, "Forget the form. Tell the story." Having said this, in addition to possibly completing a screenwriting course / studying a screenwriting book / and/or some other relevant commitment(s), I suggest reading some screenplays, possibly starting with some comedy films that were, one, commercially successful, two, critically successful, and three, you are able to access the screenplays for them online.
I hope this helps.
Keep well,
Dawud
