speech marks

by Paul Garside

Hello all. I have, throughout my novel used " for speech marks. All the books I have read, I have only just noticed (like you do after how many years?) that all speech is ' and not " which are used for quotation marks. Now my question is... how can I change them all without having to change every single one manually, is there a way a way I can change them all. I'm using office word 365. For those who answered my question on renewing office 365 I couldn't take the chance of losing all my work so I gave in and paid up.

Regards Paul

Thanks Lorraine, I had already taken the advice of Adrian to use the tool that is provided in word. I have to say it's a good tool, used for other stuff as well. Nevertheless I thank you for your direction one I take on board. And Jonathan I hope the insurance company give generously to your good cause!

Thanks and as always regards, Paul

I do so like the way people here pass on what they know, it's great.

If you use doubles for speech, use singles for quotes, and vice versa.

You don't have to change yours, unless you are sending to a publisher whose house style it is to use the single quotes: just be consistent throughout.

Thanks, Paul.

The trouble with insurance companies is they never pay what the car's worth to you. But apart from that I think we got off quite lightly.

Cheers,

Jonathan
