Italics in posted material

I recently made an attempt to post an excerpt here that was rife with italics (internal dialog). The system didn't pick up the italics. I know that Microsoft word has a few issues with cut and paste into web forms, and I have tried using "Textpad" and find it extremely cumbersome. What are some of your favorite text editor programs? Any suggestions?

The change I made here also dropped my posted story so forgive me if I re-post.

Thanks all!

Thanks everyone for your inputs and willingness to help out. I'll definitely check out Scrivener.

I guess if we want to post something in which italics make an important difference, we can identify them somehow. Perhaps ^^ before and after the line.

His thoughts turned dark, ^This is going to be one heck of a long night^.

Identifies the usage I suppose. If we preempt the post with an explanation, we're all set.

Just a thought.

Thanks again. It's been great to become part of such a good group.

When I submitted my work on this site, I used ~text here~ to indicate italics :) I think it has a similar effect.
