Hi

I am new and yes I know that this question has probably been asked a thousand times but .......I would love to hear of what helps people when they have full time jobs to get their bottoms in the chair and get the writing done. Currently i'm only managing about 3,000 words a week and feeling frustrated....any creative solutions?

Big Thanks

Thank you all this has really put it into perspective for me. I think the lesson here is quality over quantity and remember why I started because I love to write.

But I agree Lorraine its great to have a schedule, I will try this. I am also a guilty of sitting down to write then checking emails, Facebook, going to the fridge for a snack and cleaning out a cupboard while i'm there.....bum on seat, preferably at laptop and write, a challenge even when I enjoy it.

I write in fits and starts, sometimes nothing for weeks then thousands in a week. I don't think there's any magic number.

3000 words is a good output, Andrea. If you are feeling driven to produce more, you can try getting up early and writing before work (which wouldn'tsuit me!) or making a dedicated time after work when writing is what you do. Schedule it, make everything else fit in around it.

You have weekends; again, make writing a regular and important part of the schedule. Housework is over-rated.

There's the other problem we all have, of frittering away writing time on those important things like checking mail and FB. Some of us will do anything to avoid writing, when writing is the one thing we want to be doing - it's perverse, but we do it anyway. At those times, the only way to get your bottom into gear is to open the project at hand, and get on with it.
