I have an idea for a comedy movie that I think could be interesting to work on, but I have never written any kind of script before. Has anyone had any experience or thoughts about script writing?

Gracias mucho Victoria! Oops! I mean "ta very much"... ;-)

Oh, and the organisers try to work with companies to get discounts on products for the winners. In 2009 winners could get a discounted version of Scrivener for Mac. Also, they quite often have an artist who will read synopses sent to him so that he can run off suggested covers. The hope theirs might be chosen always inspires everyone to work hard on their synopsis.
Nanowrimo is simply 50,000 words in a month. It doesn't have to be anything particularly clever or well-written. The challenge is to put yourself under pressure and work through any issues that brings up. I was a 2009 'winner' and found it enormously helpful in that you learn so much about the way you write, where to write, what helps you and what doesn't. It also reveals quite a bit about the support you receive at home, or lack of.
Script Frenzy is more or less the same thing but for scripts. It gets less press attention whereas Nanowrimo tends to get a quick two minutes on the BBC if they don't have too much else to say in November... and only if they've already shown to many Movembers!
At the end of the month you upload your fifty thousand words to prove you've won. You can scramble the words if you fear theft. You then add your nane to a certificate to print off and they also give you an avatar which I used instead of a photo on the writing site I was using at the time. There is no overall winner. The goal is not to produce great literature but to learn how to produce interesting and varied work in a short time. Many of the participants stay in contact throughout December and help each other edit what they have done.
For me Nanowrimo was an essential and incredible challenge. It showed me how to focus and inspired me to keep writing. I'm sure some on here are too far along in their writing journey to consider it but if you still have lessons to learn about the way you work, there's nothing better.
