Do you use Microsoft Word, Ibook, or any other? What about editing and proofing? Just a software spell and grammar check, besides manual proofing or is there advice on how to do this better?

Microsoft word for me too as I'm a bit of a technophobe & get easily confused!
thanks everyone. it seems the vast majority use Word. I have only started using Word to share my final draft with others, as that is the format everyone uses.
I am surprised that Ibook, which I have used for 2-3 years now, isn't more popular, it hasn't crashed once, even when the word count went well over 40k words.
I am going to try the different editing tools suggested, but in the end, looks like the final format has to be in word as that is the format agents and competitions prefer.
I use Celtx, then edit with word. And in the end, check up with Paperrater and Autocrit; this is something I've recently taken up, but I find both these services to be simple and useful.
